Te Ahuahu
Here is my published recount about our walk up Te Ahuahu mountain. Lilly and Willow helped me edit it. I want you to notice that I used a simile.
Bump, bump! The bus driver starts his engine and takes off. It was Tuesday morning. We finally reach the road that Te Ahuahu is on. The bus turns into the road. Dust covers up the window as he turns. We are here I say to myself. It felt so exciting.
We start walking up the mountain and I started to shiver as we got higher and higher. I said to my buddy, I hate heights. As I take more steps I get tickling butterflies in my stomach. We arrive at the top and have something to eat. I feel little things crawling up my tee-shirt. Baby crickets jump on me. I scream “Ahhhhh!! get off me, I hate crickets.” My crinkley hand flicked them off myself. Mrs Brakovich was coming up in a car with Matua Hone. Everyone's chattering mouths were going. Then Matua Hone got out of the car and told us a story of Te Ahuahu and how all the mountains use to throw balls of fire at each other. Eden says to me, "you have a bug on your back Lani". I flicked the bug off. "Uuuu yuck" I say after I had flicked the bug.
We started walking back down the mountain. I looked out at the view of Lake Omapere. I say to my buddy it is a cool lake don’t you think. She just nodded her head and just looked straight back to the track. Lake Omapere looked like a painted picture because it was as still as a statue. We dawdled slowly down the mountain and back on to the bus, bump bump the bus goes in a flash. We are back at school in no time and it was about 1:30. I jump up and wait in the queue for everyone to hop off the bus.
